The Toyota Star Safety System
Toyota has always made safety its top priority. With the introduction of the Toyota Star Safety System in 2011, Toyota has continuously added innovative technology to promote accident free roads in our communities.
The Toyota Star Safety System features six accident avoidance technologies to improve your Toyota's stability, braking, and traction.
Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS)
When something unforeseen appears in your path, you may impulsively slam on the brakes causing them to jam. ABS helps prevent brakes from locking up by pulsing brake pressure repeatedly for fractions of a second, a reaction time not possible for humans, to help you remain in control in emergency braking situations.
Brake Assist (BA)
BA is designed to detect sudden braking. If a driver fails to apply enough pressure to the brake, the BA sensors will detect this sudden braking and add the pressure needed to come to a complete stop avoiding collision.
Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD)
Toyota's ABS technology has EBD to help keep the vehicle more stable and balanced when braking. When carrying cargo sensors recognize the extra load so brake pressure on the rear wheels is increased to improve braking.
Vehicle Stability Control (VSC)
VSC helps prevent loss of traction by reducing engine power and applying brake force to the wheels that need it. This helps keep your vehicle on the right path and your vehicle from veering in the wrong direction.
Traction Control (TRAC)
If your vehicle gets stuck and the wheels lose grip TRAC limits engine output and applies the brakes to the spinning wheel allocating power to the wheels that still have traction.
Smart Stop Technology
Toyota created the Smart Stop technology as an added safety measure. By depressing both the brake and accelerator paddle at the same time this technology automatically cuts engine power and allows the brakes to take precedence. This is particularly helpful in avoiding rollbacks when climbing steep hills.
